I am pleased to share my latest research article recently published in the Journal of Research on Technology in Education:
"A year of generative AI in English language teaching and learning - A case study"
Abstract: Artificial intelligence (AI) tools are becoming increasingly prevalent in various fields, including foreign language education. Understanding foreign language students’ and teachers’ perceptions, experiences, ideas, and suggestions is crucial for effectively integrating these tools into language learning. This case study examines the perceptions of 14 English as a Foreign Language (EFL) instructors and 13 students regarding the integration of ChatGPT in a foreign language school over one year. Data were collected through focus groups and individual interviews and analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis. Findings indicate that generative AI chatbots enhance language skills, provide diverse learning materials, and foster inclusiveness and equity in language learning environments. However, significant concerns were expressed regarding plagiarism and potential negative impacts on students’ cognitive skills.
