A year of generative AI in English language teaching and learning - A case study

I am pleased to share my latest research article recently published in the Journal of Research on Technology in Education : "A year of generative AI in English language teaching and learning - A case study" Abstract: Artificial intelligence (AI) tools are becoming increasingly prevalent in various fields, including foreign language education. Understanding foreign language students’ and teachers’ perceptions, experiences, ideas, and suggestions is crucial for effectively integrating these tools into language learning. This case study examines the perceptions of 14 English as a Foreign Language (EFL) instructors and 13 students regarding the integration of ChatGPT in a foreign language school over one year. Data were collected through focus groups and individual interviews and analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis. Findings indicate that generative AI chatbots enhance language skills, provide diverse learning materials, and foster inclusiveness and equity in language ...

Reflexive Thematic Analysis

I'm excited to share my latest research published in the Journal of Theory and Practice in Education, which delves into the application of reflexive thematic analysis in qualitative research, particularly within doctoral dissertations. Below is the abstract outlining the key insights and contributions of this study. To explore the full paper, please follow the link provided.   Abstract: Thematic analysis is a widely used qualitative data analysis method across various disciplines. However, one of the most common challenges in thematic analysis research is the tendency to treat it as a singular approach with rigid boundaries. This study examines reflexive thematic analysis (RTA), one of the most cited thematic analysis methods, and provides a comprehensive discussion on its application in educational research. Using a doctoral dissertation as a case study, this article explores the research design, data analysis process, and theoretical underpinnings of RTA. Th...
